National Coalition Against Censorship Releases Filtering Report
The Free Expression Policy Project of the National Coalition Against
Censorship has just published a new study, "Internet Filters: A Public Policy
Report," that compiles the results of what it describes as all of the studies
and tests that it could locate on 19 products or software programs that are
commonly used to filter Web sites and other Internet communications. The
report is available at
www.ncac.org/issues/internetfilters.html.
The studies cited date back to 1997 and were performed by a variety of
groups, including Consumer Reports, the Center for Media Education, academics
and anti-filtering activists. Some of the products reviewed are marketed only
for use on standalone desktop computers.
